Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging

Computerized Tomography (CT)

Computerized Tomography or CT is a diagnostic imaging procedure that combines the use of X-rays with computer technology to produce clear, detailed cross-sectional images of any part of the body

Depending upon what body part you are having examined, the technologist may have you drink a barium liquid and/or may put an intravenous (IV) in your arm to inject a special x-ray contrast.

You will be asked to lie on the CT table. Images will be acquired as the table moves in and out of the CT machine. Portions of the CT scanner will move around you, but nothing will ever touch you. The radiologist will interpret the images and a report will be sent to your doctor. Please let the technologist or radiologist know if you are allergic to any medications or if you think you may be pregnant.
